African powerhouse nations dominate day 2 of UFAK Championships

The second day of the competition of the 2023 UFAK Karate Championships being held in Durban (South Africa) put underage categories on the stage. The African powerhouse nations of the sport prevailed on Day 2.

The Egyptian delegation claimed more titles to complete their successful performance in Senior categories on Friday. Karim Ahmed and Omar Metwaly won the crowns in Cadet Kumite Male -63kg and Cadet Kumite Male +70kg respectively while Ganna Aly and Rahma Tolba became African champions in Junior Kumite Female -48kg and Junior Kumite Female -59kg respectively. Mohamed Hany Nasser took the crown in Junior Kumite Male -55kg while Youssef Farag prevailed in Junior Kumite Male -76kg. The gold medal count for Egypt was completed by Omar Osman in Junior Kumite Male +76kg

Morocco added three golds on Saturday. Roumayssae Tarkou opened the gold medal count for the African nation in Cadet Kumite Male -47kg while Samir Sadini won the title in Cadet Kumite Male -57kg. The crown in Junior Kumite Male -68kg went to Mohamed-Amine Badjou

Tunisia also celebrated three gold medals on day 2 of action. Mayssa Ksantini became continental champion in Cadet Kumite Female -54kg as Mohaned Rahmouni dominated Cadet Kumite Male -70kg. The flag of Tunisia went to the top of the podium in Junior Kumite Female +59kg with the title going to Mariem Taleb.

The universality of Karate was demonstrated on Saturday as no less than five countries took home the gold medals at stake. Salma Hafed of Libya won the crown in Cadet Kumite Female +54kg while Ala Eddine Kichou of Algeria prevailed in Cadet Kumite Male -52kg. Algerian representatives added more titles in Junior categories with the gold in Junior Kumite Female -53kg going to Kenza Yahiaoui and in Junior Kumite Male -61kg going to Mohamed Anis Saadi

In the team competition, the titles were claimed by Algeria in Female Team Kata and Female Team Kumite and Morocco in Male Team Kata and Male Team Kumite.
